Since I have moved to several different cities over the course of my married
life, I have had the opportunity to
experience the flavor of numerous Conservative Synagogues. When I moved to the
West Bloomfield area of Detroit and joined Banai Moshe, I was surprised to have
to cover my head while sitting in the Sanctuary. Usually I would only be
required to do this if I was going up to the Bimah to take part in the service.
So this was something new to me. An usher politely handed me a white, lacy,
headcovering and asked me to put it on. I wanted to fit into my new congregation
but didn't want to wear that lace topper ever again, so I set out to create
something special.
I had plenty of experience in the arts and crafts world and remembering that
one of my classmates had used wire for her warp in a weaving class that I had
taken back in South Bend, IN. I tried a slightly different approach and came up
with an off loom technique that made a consistent, light weight, and lovely
product.
When I wore my first Kippah to services enough women approached me wanting to
order one for themselves that I decided maybe I had something here! That is how
KIPPAH SECRET... was started. But please don't keep it a secret!
I'd love to hear from you, thanks for stopping by my site.
Edie is happy to announce that she and her family will be moving back to Bloomfield Hills, Michigan at the end of July 2004. So look for her Kippot there at Esther's Judicia Store if you are in the area.
